Have Acorn, Will Fly
A very rare visitor to BC's Lower Mainland. This bird is living up to its name! A very rare species in British Columbia. This one took a four day stopover in Ladner and was busy living up to its name. Needless to say it gathered lots of admirers before moving on. October 2022.

Sunshine On My Shoulder
"Makes Me Happy" to quote John Denver. This young Barred Owl found a nice clearing for a sunbath. Timing was everything here – this pose did not last long. I was happy too!

Big Splash!
Humpback Whale makes a splash in the morning fog off Vancouver Island. When our boat arrived at this location we were soon enveloped in a sea mist. We could hear whales but not see them – then this happened!

Parliament Opens
One of my favourite photos from the 2011 irruption of Snowy Owls at Boundary Bay.
There were originally four owls here but people got too close and they all flew away with the paparazzi in full pursuit. I stayed quietly where I was and some time later these three returned (sans crazy humans). The third one arriving just as the sun was setting.
The Fallen

Rocky Mountain Pika
Rocky Mountain Pika in Jasper National Park. More often just called a Pika, or American Pika, this is one of two species of Pika found in North America. I came across this one half way down the “Whistlers”.
